In order to differentiate the independent contributions of audio-visual and horse-riding to the improvements observed from the previous study, I am currently in the process of conducting a second experiment.
I am seeking a further 40 children with dyspraxia to participate in this PhD research study in the Dublin and Galway regions.
This study will simultaneously investigate various alternative equine related therapies to improve cognition, attention, focus, behaviour, coordination, mood arousal, self-confidence and self-esteem in the Dublin and Galway regions with the aim of the research being to design an Audio Visual approach to Equine Therapy, thus making it more accessible to the broader public.
Children must have a primary diagnosis of dyspraxia, be aged between 6-15 years and must not have participated in any equine related activity in the previous 12 months in order to participate.
The provisional commencement date for this study is February 2014, for a period of 8 weeks.
Participation is free but places are limited.
Children will be in the care of experienced helpers at all times during the research project and the activities are designed to be enjoyable, as well as beneficial.
I am also seeking children with dyspraxia to participate in a Control Group Study. These children will attend the sessions on week 1 & 8 only, for the pre and post assessments but will not undergo any intervention.
This research is being conducted under the auspices of the Graduate Research Programme at LSAD, Limerick Institute of Technology and is in assocation with University College Dublin.
